Mother’s Day is a very special day for me. It is a time to remember my mom who I lost 12 years ago at the young age of 62 and to honor my sweet mother-in-law who I have a very special relationship with. Growing up, the relationship I had with my mother was a tough one. I was a strong-willed child and she raised me and my siblings with a very firm hand. My dad worked non-stop so our mother was the main disciplinary in our house. I am who I am today because of her. Fortunately, as I grew up and went out into the world, the relationship we had and the one I cherished the most with her was “friend”. My drive home from work everyday ended with a phone call on my cell phone with my mom. I do miss her, some days more than others but the love between a mother and child is special.
In May of 2001, I celebrated my first Mother’s Day as a mom. Through many prayers and medical treatments, I am one of the lucky ones to have this honor. I am thankful. I am blessed. I watch my son quickly growing up. I want it to slow down but I know it won’t. So yesterday, as I opened my cards and enjoyed the perfume he (and his dad) got me, I am happy to have another Mother’s Day with them and with my mother-in-law. As I was busy creating jewelry pieces for those of you out there for Mother’s Day, I added a little extra love with each piece. Your loved ones love you so much and I really appreciate the opportunity to create something special for you! I hope your Mother’s Day was extra special. It doesn’t matter if you are a mom to children with two legs or with four legs you are special! Thanks for checking out my blog today! Happy Mother’s Day!
Yesterday I finally replaced the phone in our home office. It had an outgoing message on it that our son had recorded years ago. The phone didn’t work anymore but I didn’t want to throw it away until I could save that message. I can’t remember how old he was but I think he was 7 or 8. It’s such a cute message and at the end of it he says “thank you very much” like he’s impersonating Elvis. I love the flashback pictures that appear on my personal Facebook page. Last week there was a picture of him about that same age standing in front of the Great Wolf Lodge during Spring break. Where has the time gone? I know he can’t stay a child forever but I do miss those days.
Next month he will turn 16! Sweet 16! Since starting high school last year he has definitely developed a “whatever” attitude. That attitude sometimes surfaces when we have to discuss a bad grade or not doing his chores like he is supposed to. He’s really a good kid but there are times that my patience can be tested.
I’m trying to come up with something to make his 16th birthday memorable. Milestone birthdays need to be memorable. It’s going to be a busy few weeks ahead! I’m busy preparing for a craft show next week and making cards for the many birthdays celebrated in our family in May as well as planning a little weekend getaway for my husband’s birthday (in May).
Don’t forget to check out the newest creations on my website–Dangles. They were a huge hit at my last event. Dangles you can add to your purse and dangles you can wear. The purse dangles can also be added to bridles to glam up your horse!

I totally failed on the National Siblings Day yesterday but can’t pass up today because it’s National Pet Day. This is Ruby, our little girl and Cooley, our big boy. Ruby just turned a year old last week and Cooley is almost seven years old. They are part Maine Coon and we love their sweet personalities. Cooley is very laid back and loves to snuggle. Ruby likes to lay close if she’s cold but her ability to be affectionate is all on her terms. Yes, we do talk to them like we expect them to answer us back. They do reply with a chirping kind of sound. Ruby copies everything her big brother does. We were nervous when we decided to add another cat to our family but Cooley accepted her immediately. She was 8 weeks old when we brought her home and they have been buddies ever since. We love our fur babies. If you love your fur babies like we do and want a piece of jewelry created to show your love, let me know!
How many of you can remember playing tricks on your siblings or your friends on April Fool’s Day? Growing up with two brothers and a sister you can imagine the kinds of tricks we could play on each other. Now that I’m older I have more fun playing tricks on my father-in-law! In my day job I work with my husband and my in-laws (and yes, we all get along great!). I recently drew faces on clementines that were sitting on my father-in-law’s desk. I never know what he will leave on my desk when I’m not around.
So, we don’t need one day out of the year to play tricks on others. Another “trick” I play with my teenage son is jumping out and scaring him. He tries to scare me back but hasn’t been too successful at it yet. It’s fun and lighthearted.
My advise is just have fun. Life is short and you need a good laugh every single day. Have a story to share? What’s your favorite April Fool’s joke or trick? Please share!
Sometimes we all get so busy in our lives we don’t slow down and enjoy the little things. My husband and I have a soon-to-be 16 year old son, Jacob. He is the love of our lives. We enjoy being with him. Even if we aren’t all sitting in the same room of our house we are together. This past weekend Jacob spent the weekend with my husband’s parents. He has such a sweet relationship with his Nana and Pop Pop and he enjoys being with them, going on vacation and had already made plans to spend his Spring break with them next week. Yes, he gets spoiled by his Nana! He loves her waffles and every time he goes over there she never lets him down–he gets his waffles. My husband, RD, and I had some quality “couple” time while he was being spoiled. We didn’t do anything exciting but enjoyed taking a drive, shopping for trees and having a nice quiet meal together. Sometimes it’s nice to be able to reconnect – just the two of us. He is my best friend forever and always. So, what does that have to do with “Happy Beginnings”? Well, today one of my beautiful nieces ask me if I would be willing to make her bridal party jewelry for her. I have been over the moon excited about her upcoming wedding but I’m honored that she would ask me to do that. I’m so happy to be a part of her happy beginnings. Her wedding is in October so as soon as her wedding party gets to see their treasures then I will share them on a future blog. Thanks for spending a little time with me today! Till next time.
I am a beach girl for sure. I love the smell of the salty air, the sun, tans, and yes, even the sand that gets into everything you touch. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a good snow fall with that snowed in feeling and the warmth of the fire in our wood stove. But the first sign that warm weather is coming (like the unusually warm weather Virginia had earlier this month) then my toes are ready for flip flops and pedicures.
There is something about the beach that calls to me. When I look at the endless ocean or the beautiful sunsets I’m in awe of the beautiful world we live in. I guess it helps that it’s usually during a vacation that I get to enjoy that beachy feeling. We have no plans to move but if we ever did I want to move to the beach. For now, I enjoy our beach/nautical themed family room, vacations and making beach themed jewelry pieces. Check out some of the summer pieces I have created.
I have been creating jewelry for a couple years now. In the beginning, I started showing my creations on my Facebook page. What I found out, believe it or not, that there are still people out there that do not have a Facebook page and have no plans to get one. So, last year I started working on creating a website. The website was okay but I wasn’t super excited about it. Over the past few months I’ve been taking a WordPress class to be able to manage my church’s website. I’ve enjoyed the class so much I decided I would recreate my jewelry website too. At least now I feel like I have more flexibility for what I want to share with my followers/customers. Hope you will enjoy this adventure with me.
